Slightly Mad Studios’s Project CARS title is now fully funded thanks to their World of Mass Development portal.
Launched in October 2011, the idea behind World of Mass Development was to allow the studio to independently develop a racing simulation by getting the community involved. Back then, some sim racers believed the project to be too ambitious but the strength of the community has proven that Slightly Mad Studios’ vision of independently funding and developing a racing title can become reality.
13 months after the initial launch, the funding goal has been reached as the full 3.75 million Euros required to develop the title have been pitched in. In return, ten thousands of members get to try regular development builds, follow the development of the title in the WMD forums and earn a share of the title’s profits once it hits the shelves in 2013.
Due to the funding being completed, purchasing and upgrading of tool packs is no longer possible, closing the WMD forums to new members. All members that are on board now will continue to receive all their benefits, everybody else will have to wait until late 2013 to give the finished title a try.
Until then, there will surely be no shortage of preview material as the busy WMD community will continue to create screenshots and videos of all upcoming new features & cars for everyone to enjoy.
