Here are some things to always be conscious of when racing.
Room etiquette
1. DO NOT RAGE QUIT If you are someone who can not handle driving a certain distance, damage model, crashing, or generally running in the back of the pack, do not join online races.
2. Pay attention to lobby/lounge rules and regulations If this is driving a certain car, a certain distance, or driving mode (i.e. having full damage turned on) be aware of this. Don't be the gamer who comes on driving the wrong car, you will look like an idiot. if you do not wish to drive at those rules/regs... start your own room.
3. Lag Unfortunately, Lag happens. If you are told that you are lagging, you should remove yourself from the race and make sure all efforts to correct the issue are fixed. (Clear your game cache, make sure in game/lobby/race music is turned off, delete all sent and received messages, and lastly reset your Internet connection by resetting your router)
Driving
1. The lead car always has the right of way if two (or more) undamaged cars are racing together for position, the lead car will always have the option to choose his line on a straight or into/out of a turn. It is up to the trailing drivers to respect his position, breaking distance and line. Any contact caused will be the fault of the trailing drivers. I shouldn't have to mention this, but will anyway: the lead car is not allowed to 'brake check' the trailing cars.
2. Drivers who are a lap down should not attempt to race with drivers on the lead lap. Respect the position and get out of the way. If you are caught in a turn, continue driving until the next straightaway and then slow down and the the lead driver by.
3. Be conscious of who you are racing with Be aware of what driving aids people are using. (i.e. if someone is not using ABS, realize that their braking distance is longer than someone who is using ABS)
-- Crashing
1. If you Crash, try to to crash off the track. I know drivers want to try to 'save' a crash. If this is not possible, do your best to stay off the racing line/track while you are crashing.
2. If you are damaged, make it known to the rest of the racers, and do everything in your power not to get in anyone else's way. I realize that some damage is perfectly drivable, you still want to make it known so other cars know what to expect if they come upon you.
3. Do not immediately pull back onto the track If you crash, make sure you have enough space and time to pull on the track correctly. If there are undamaged cars coming, WAIT UNTIL THEY PASS.
4. Fix Major Damage. Do not attempt to drive at a full pace (or in the driving line) with major damage. Chances are you will wreck someone else.
5. Exiting the pits If there is an extended pit lane exit, USE IT. This is courtesy for drivers who have pitted to get up to race speed. Do not pull out into full speed traffic.
